*Large Ensemble Recordings are for groups the size of a chamber orchestra (apprx. 10 players) or larger.

I regularly facilitate livestreams at An die Musik in downtown Baltimore, just a couple blocks from Peabody. It is one of the few venues still operating virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic (with room for safe social distancing for groups of up to 6 on stage, or 9 spread out in the entire room). Get in touch with the owner, Henry Wong, about booking the space to use for recordings (be sure to tell him I sent you). Note that he charges a separate hourly rate to use the space and a fee to tune the piano, but since much of my equipment is already stored there, I will completely waive the Equipment/Setup Fee for any sessions booked at An die Musik.

As a composer, I care about new works being heard. The New Piece Discount is for world premiere recordings (either live or for a recording session) of recently composed works, especially for when the composer is involved. It consists of $25 off the equipment/setup fee and the first 5 edits for free.

*Folk, Bluegrass, or similar genres that involve groups playing in a space would be billed the same as Jazz sessions. Ask about rock or pop sessions with overdubs, etc.
**I consider a track to be in the range of 3-10 minutes. Anything shorter or longer than this range may be subject to a price reduction or increase, depending on the complexity of the musical material.
To mix a full (1-CD equivalent) album or live-tracked show, I cap the price at $1000 for groups without drums and $1250 for groups with drums.

A contract will be sent upon the final booking of a session or live concert recording—you’ll simply have to agree and return it with the Equipment/Setup Fee as an upfront deposit (this guarantees that for the block of time I have your business and that you have my services). After you get the final product, I will send an invoice for services rendered. I take PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check.


Where should I plan to have my recording sessions? Do you provide the space? While I would love to help you find a venue, ultimately it will be your (the client’s) responsibility to book the space and to cover any associated booking fees. This being said, there are many lovely spaces around Baltimore that work well for recordings. As mentioned above, I offer discounts for booking at An die Musik. If you are a student at Peabody, the Centre Street Performance Space is available for free when the campus is open, and many of the gorgeous churches in the area are happy to let students use their spaces during the week, often free of charge.

How quickly can you get me the finished products? It depends on the project size and how quickly you need them. If you have a deadline, let me know ahead of time and I will be sure to allot time to be sure you get them in time, even if it’s two days away. Just keep in mind that the files for videos are often large and take a long time for me to upload, for you to download, and for you to subsequently submit. Even if you don’t have a deadline, I will be sure to deliver the finished product within a reasonable timeframe (1-4 weeks at the very latest).

How will I get the final product? I like use a free file transfer service called WeTransfer, which is sent to your email address (you don’t need an account). You have a week to download the audio and video (if applicable) files onto your own storage before they go away– but don’t worry! I always keep backups in case you missed it. If you want to arrange to meet in person for a local transfer, I can put the files on a USB flash drive (for you to keep, for $10 added to your invoice) or transfer directly from my storage drive to your computer or flash drive.

How do edits work? For audio-only classical editing, the possibilities are vast so long as we get sufficient takes for all the material during the session. I will provide you with reference audio of all the good takes from the session. The best way is to send me a score either marked with annotations indicating the takes you want, or accompanied by a written key that references places in the score such as, “Measures 1-16 use Take 3; mm. 17-20 use Take 5; mm. 21 to the 3rd beat of 32 use Take 2…,” etc.

Can you edit to video? In fact, upon request I can make very small adjustments to the audio part of the video, to correct single notes or very small phrases. This depends on the edits in question being consistently timed, without any disruptions around it so that it doesn’t go out of sync with the video. I can’t guarantee that everything you ask me will work, but I can usually pull them off. I will only send you edited content that is clean enough that I personally can’t tell it has been edited.

Do you master the audio? For archival recordings, audition tapes, etc. I master the mixes to standards consistent with most streaming services. But for more involved recordings meant for distribution, if at all possible I prefer to have mastering done by a different engineer than myself. That being said, if you’re tight on time or on a budget and don’t want to hire a separate engineer to master a tune, I will master any mix I create for an additional $35 per track, and I will provide you with both the unmastered and mastered products.
